I dunno how many people here this would apply to, but I'm going to prom this year and am attempting to make my dress. Anyone with me here? I just got a pretty simple long black satiny dress from the thrift store on half off day, and I'm converting it into this pattern: www.burdastyle.com/patterns/show/3852. I've never actually worked with real patterns before, and I'm sure everyone will say that my prom dress is not the place to start...but that's just how I roll. Anyway, anyone else doing it/done it/have advice? Pictures? Do share! I will as I come up with them.

Okay, so it's all done, prom was fun, and my dress didn't fall off! ;D Me and my "prom date." Both our boyfriends were 21 and couldn't go, so we went together Shit picture, I know, but it's the only one that actually shows me entirely, and sorta shows the blue bit in the back. Some of the seams were kinda janky, but hey, it got the job done.

Haha, thanks guys. I would do a tutorial, but it probably wouldn't be very good (taking pictures of the top of your own head sounds like a stunt). You can probably look up those "mohawks" on youtube, I think there are a lot of tutorials with basically the same technique that I used:
1. Section off the front piece and clip it out of the way 2. Gather about half of the remaining hair into a very high ponytail (get it as close as possible to the front section of hair) 3. Tease the shit out of the front and hairspray away. Clip it back and down. I didn't tease my bangs, I just clipped them back over the section to make it look a bit smoother. 4. Tease the ponytail and remaining hair a bit, as much as you want.
I sort of curled the ends of my hair to make it look a little fancy, but I left the whole thing pretty loose and sloppy to keep it from being too fancy.

I think it could be an interesting thing to try with curly hair...hmm. My hair is naturally wavy and frizzy, but I just blow dry it really well and it calms down a bit.
