What is your craft?
I guess you could say that my craft is conducting interviews for my blogzine. I interview subcultural girls about stuff that they do, whether it is art, music or performance. If looking at 'craft' in a more traditional sense, I guess you could say that I love to modify things to my own tastes. My personal favourite is denim vests and jackets. Makeup is another thing that I like to play around with a lot! Bright colours are the best! I also loooove to cook, especially anything involving potatoes! Potato pizza is my specialty!
Why do you craft?
I started my blogzine because I was well and truly sick and tired of the only representation of subcultural girls online being through them getting their clothes off. For example, the resurgence of pinup culture, as well as through sites like Suicide Girls. Girls can do so much more than take their clothes off, and through my blogzine I wanted to share these things with the world. In regards to actual crafting, I do it because I can't buy things exactly how I envision them!
What are your sources of inspiration?
Musical subcultures, it's pretty much my main interest in life. I love delving into them and discovering all the history. This mish mash of musical interests is represented in my crafting, for example, my vest has a back patch of an old reggae band, plus a patch of my favourite psychobilly band, as well as button badges of my favourite riot grrrl bands and punk bands!
What is your favorite beverage?
Gin and tonics alllll the way!
Where do you buy your favorite beverage?
My favourite night club, Deville's Pad, of course!
How did you come up with your business name?
I came up with the name for my blogzine, Subcultural Pink Bits, a few years ago now. The focus of the zine is on subcultural girls, so that is where that part comes from. My online identity has been 'everpink' since I was 14 years old, so 'Pink Bits' refers to the interviews being done by me, but also acts as a slang term to represent females (since 'pink bits' has been a way to refer to female genitalia for years). Add it all together, and you get Subcultural Pink Bits, I feel it accurately portrays what the zine is about.
What is your weapon of choice?
My laptop! haha For actual crafting I'd definitely say my big bag of studs. I love studding stuff! And splattering with bleach!
What would you be doing otherwise?
Probably unconstructive ranting to anyone that will listen!
Do you have any advice for other crafters?
Just dooooo it! I am by no means a competent journalist, but the easiest way to learn a new skill is to just give it a go.
Any final last words?
Meggers and Amanda rock my socks off, keep an eye out on my blogzine for the interview I did with them! Yew!
